How much protein is needed?
According to several studies, the recommendations tell us that we should consume 0.8-1 grams of protein per kilogram of weight per day, however for physically active people an intake of 1.2-2 grams of protein per kilogram of weight is recommended, now the question is, Why do athletes or physically active people need increased protein intake? Here the answers:
- They have a higher energy expenditure by having a higher proportion of muscle mass compared to a sedentary person.
- They have a greater muscle damage by the exercise routine so árdua, for which a good muscle recovery is needed through rest and protein consumption.
Despite all of the above, you should keep in mind that an excess of protein can bring a negative effect to your body, since you can overload the functionality of the liver and kidneys and cause irreparable damage, so remember that everything is based on your goals and your body, always under the supervision of a nutrition expert.
In conclusion: protein is a fundamental element when we want to improve our diet and our exercise performance, it is important to remember to include proteins in our diet of high biological value, give preference to low fat proteins and remember that falling into excess could cause negative effects, that’s why we recommend that you always take a balanced diet based on your goals; supplements or products with added protein are optional, but they are usually an excellent tool to replace cravings and at the same time help you achieve your personal goals.
